With an excitement, passion and enthusiasm for Jazz, Yacov Amar, a Jazz Trumpet and Flugelhorn player, brings a new vibrant sound on stage that captures the ears of his listeners.

Born in Israel, Yacov Amar came of age listening to Miles Davis. The first time Yacov heard the album Birth of the Cool, he was intrigued by Davis’s improvisational approach and unique sound. The album left a deep, lasting impression. As a youth, he began playing the trumpet with his Community Band and the National Youth Orchestra of Israel. After his civil army service, he committed to the trumpet and enrolled in Music Studies at the Rimon School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.


From 2000 to 2004, Amar lived in New York, experiencing and studying the roots of Jazz at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, CUNY. While earning his Master’s Degree in Jazz Performance, he studied with the legendary late Sir Roland Hanna, Michael Philip Mossman, Antonio Hart, Michael Weiss, and the opera and classical music composer, Thea Musgrave. In New York, he performed and recorded with diverse artists from the local jazz scene.


After Amar’s return to Israel, he began collaborating closely with many renowned jazz musicians: Mamelo Gaitanopolus, Robert Anchopolvsky, Nitay Herskovitz, Ofer Ganor, Eyal Ganor, and Dr. Shlomi Goldenberg. As well, he performed at internationally prestigious events, such as, the Red Sea and the Tel Aviv Jazz Festivals.


In 2014, Amar produced a tribute to Chet Baker with jazz pianist arranger and composer Jonathan Riklis, with Ram Erez on bass. The recording and show won high praise in the local Jazz community.
He performed with the legendary jazz trumpeter Dusko Goykovich at Künstlerhaus in Munich, playing the full arrangements of Dusko's musical album "5ive Horns & Rhythm" (2016).


Amar actively records with the top contemporary Israeli artists in the Jazz, Folk and Pop scene, as well can be heard on multiple film scores. For a number of years, he has been performing a tribute to the legendary collaboration of Art Farmer and Gigi Gryce with renowned Jazz saxophonist and Wind instrumentalist Ofer Shapira.


His style of flowing melodic lines, with a warm and abundant tone is highly influenced by the great jazz trumpeters: Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Booker Little and Kenny Dorham. 


Yacov Amar, Jazz trumpeter and bandleader, with over 20 years of experience in Arrangement and Instruction of Jazz studies, is an active member of the Jazz Club "The Jazz Allee Theater” in Tel-Aviv-Jaffa.
